We serve our community in tangible ways by conducting food distributions, collecting items for those in need, coordinating service projects, rolling up our sleeves in area schools, and more to show the love of Jesus to our community.

Serve at the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen


Sacred Heart Catholic Church serves the food challenged on Sundays at the Sacred Heart Church. We help them the 4th Sunday of each month at 1:00PM. Please plan to participate with us! Contact Marving and Lucia @ farmer1990@verizon.net for details.

 


 

FOOD DISTRIBUTION


One of the ministries of First Baptist is to provide food insecure families in our community with a meaningful amount of food on the third Saturday of each month. This drive thru food distribution is located in the parking lot across the street from our facility and is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am. You can help in this effort by bringing in one or more of the items listed below. Items may be dropped off at the Live the Mission Center on Sunday or in the church office during the week. The requested sizes are so that all bags are as identical as possible.

Food distribution needs:
  • 10-16 oz. box of non-sugary cereal
  • 14-18 oz. jar of peanut butter
  • 14-28 oz. jelly
  • 1 pound container of pasta noodles
  • 6-8 oz. box of macaroni and cheese
  • 16- 24 oz. can or jar of spaghetti sauce
  • 14-16 oz. can green beans
  • 14-16 oz. can corn
  • 16-20 oz. hearty soup
  • 12-16 oz. instant potatoes
  • 12-14 oz. canned chicken
  • 14-20 oz. can or jar of fruit
  • 4 roll pack of bathroom tissuer
  • 2 roll pack of paper towels
  • 64 oz. container of juice/ Sunny D

    Serve Opportunity- Luke 3:11 Homeless Ministry

    Luke 3:11 is a ministry of our church. Volunteers continue to serve a portion (typically about 50 adults) of the homeless community in Norfolk on the first Sunday morning of every month (before church). The men and women who live on the streets can receive a hot breakfast, head to toe weather appropriate clothing, toiletries, gift cards for a meal, backpacks and many other items. If you would like to help provide for the homeless in a meaningful way, the following items are always needed:

  • Vienna sausage (small can)
  • Cheese or peanut butter crackers
  • Pop-top cans of Chef Boyardee or similar
  • Tuna pouches or pop top cans of sardines
  • Granola bars
  • Hotel sized toiletries
  • Boxed Bar soap
  • Toothpaste
  • Tooth brushes
  • Disposable razors
  • Men’s belts
  • Men’s hoodies (large and extra-large)
  • Men’s jeans (up to waist size 38)

    Volunteer at Lake Taylor School and Innovation Center

    As a community partner for Norfolk Public Schools, members of First Norfolk can help serve our local school in so many ways! We need chaperones, mentors, tutors, assistant coaches, cafeteria monitors, and more. The time commitment is nothing compared to the lives you will change, or the lives that will change yours.
