There is no need to change the above statements because Jay is certainly a work in progress. Thankfully, we can trust God's Word in Philippians 1:6, "I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (HCSB)
Jay is from Mississippi and has been on staff at First Baptist Norfolk since August 1, 2004. His first 12 years of ministry were spent as a Student Pastor in churches in Mississippi: Wynndale Baptist, Terry, Mississippi; First Baptist, Clinton, Mississippi; and First Baptist, Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is a graduate of Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He married Julie Bevell of Memphis, Tennessee and they have four beautiful children.
Some describe Jay's style of preaching as relaxed and conversational. It seems to fit the atmosphere at Chesapeake Fellowship. Although the atmosphere may be different, God's word is not. The Holman Christian Standard Bible is the translation that Jay usually uses.
